And partied "absolutely out of control", albeit only in Akureyri
Interviewed by musician Unnsteinn Manuel Stefánsson for RÚV, Minister of Health Kristján Þór Júlíusson said that he partied ‘out of control’ as a young man, and did drugs, both legal and illegal varieties. When asked which ones, he chose not to answer.
The interview was broadcast in the program Hæpið, aimed at young adults. Earlier this year, the Minister announced his intention to reconsider retributive policies in drug control. According to DV, Unnsteinn asked if Kristján was interested in legalizing drugs. The Minister replied: “No, I am not interested in that. This is first and foremost about seeking any possible solution to achieve better results in the campaign against illegal drugs.”
Unnsteinn then asked if Kristján had partied intensely in earlier days, to which the Minister replied: “Absolutely out of control,” albeit only in his birthplace, Akureyri, and not after relocating to Reykjavík, which he referred to as “the city of fear”. Have you done illegal drugs, Unnsteinn then asked, and Kristján replied: “Of course. Both legal and illegal.” When asked which ones, he reportedly laughed and said: “I will not disclose that. No one is interested in hearing that.”
