ScreenDaily says the Icelandic film “must be a contender for a major award and will be a regular feature at other international film festivals.”
A review of Paris Of The North (París norðursins) was featured in today’s ScreenDaily, and the verdict is highly positive:
“The wonderfully – and often beautifully – bleak landscape contrasts perfectly with the more downbeat aspects of the story. It is a slow moving and darkly funny story … with [filmmaker] Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson favouring gentle slow takes (interspersed with moments of rock music) that allows the wry and sparse performances of the actors to shine through and let them quietly develop their characters. Paris Of The North is a delightfully dry and wry comedy drama.”
Regular Grapevine readers might recognise Hafsteinn’s name – he was also the filmmaker behind Á annan veg, which was made into the American indie movie Prince Avalanche.
