Most Icelanders are satisfied with the job President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson has been doing, with a spike in support coinciding with a recent visit from Swedish royalty.
According to a new poll from Market and Media Research, 55.9% of respondents said they were happy with the president’s performance, up from 49% one month previous. At the same time, the percentage of those dissatisfied with the president decreased from 26.6% to 23.6%. Those with no opinion on the president also decreased, from 24.4% to 21.6%.
MMR also points out that during the period of time that the poll was conducted – from June 18 to 23 – the president had received a visit from Swedish royals Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel, and also gave them a small tour of the country.
As reported, the president will not run for office in 2016, leaving the presidency after two decades in power. So far, only former Reykjavík mayor Jón Gnarr has hinted at taking a shot at the office.
