About one-third of Icelanders believe the world would be a better place if women were in most positions of leadership.
MBL reports that, according to a new international Gallup poll, 31% of Icelanders believe the world would be better off if most leadership positions were occupied by women. At the same time, 6% said they believed the world would be worse off, while 41% did not think it would make a difference.
This differs slightly from the global average, where 34% said we would be better off with mostly female politicians, 17% said we would be worse off, and 41% believed it would make no difference.
Afghanistan was the country with the most equal proportions believing the world would be better, or worse, with mostly female politicians – only 1% of Afghans said it would make no difference. At the same time, Colombia was the most receptive to a female majority, with 62% of Colombians saying it would make the world a better place.
For the record, women comprise 25 of the Icelandic parliament’s 63 seats.
