Nigerian asylum seeker Tony Omos’ case against the Directorate of Immigration has been postponed until October 2014, reports RÚV.
The reason the case has been pushed is to allow for the investigation into Interior Minister Hanna Birna Kristjánsdóttir to conclude.
Hanna Birna and the Interior Ministry is under investigation for having leaked a memo last November to selected members of the press contending that Omos – who was facing deportation and in hiding from police at the time – was connected to a human trafficking case and that he is not actually the father of his girlfriend Evelyn Glory Joseph’s child. The document contended furthermore that Evelyn was pressured by Tony to say he is the child’s father.
None of these allegations turned out to be true and in addition to being deported, the false reports of Omos’ human trafficking involvement reached Nigeria and significantly damaged his reputation there.
