According to a new poll from the Social Sciences Department of the University of Iceland, the Independence Party currently has the greatest support for upcoming municipal elections.
MBL reports that 28.4% of respondents said they would vote for the Independence Party if city elections were held today, equaling five seats in Reykjavík’s 15-seat city council.
At the same time, the current ruling coalition for the city – Bright Future and the Social Democrats – have lost their majority. Bright Future polled at 21%, or three council seats, whilst the Social Democrats are currently polling at 23.5%, or four seats.
Where other parties are concerned, the Left-Greens came in at about 9%, giving them one seat on city council, whilst the Pirates polled at 12%, or two seats. The Progressives polled at about 3%, which is not enough to win a seat on city council.
City elections will be held this April.
