Iceland’s annual Gay Pride festival organisers have a full schedule of events planned this weekend, including the famed parade tomorrow.
Gay Pride has become one of Iceland’s largest annual festivals, involving people from all walks of life. Tomorrow is the peak of the festival, with events lasting throughout the day.
Starting things off is the famed Gay Pride march. This year, the parade will begin at Vatnsmýrarvegur, just east of the BSí bus terminal, at 12:00. The march will proceed down Sóleyjargata, Fríkirkjuvegur and Lækjargata to Arnarhóll – the hill by the harbour that bears the statue of Iceland’s “first settler”, Ingólfur Árnasson.
There, a concert will be held at the foot of the hill at 15:30. The acts scheduled to perform include Páll Óskar, Sigga Beinteins, Friðrik Ómar, Blár Ópal, Birna Björns, Þórunn Antonía, Friðrik Dór, Helgi Björnsson, Hafsteinn Þórólfsson, Viggó & Víóletta and American band BETTY.
At 23:00, there will be a dance at Club Broadway, featuring D Lingerine, DJ Kollster, and the incomparable Páll Óskar. But even if you don’t go to Broadway, the mood downtown will be decidedly festive.
