Presidential elections are tomorrow, and current president Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson is currently polling over 50% in two different polls, greatly increasing his lead over his closest challenger, Þóra Arnórsdóttir. See the bottom of this article for information on how and where to vote.
RÚV reports that Ólafur is polling at 50.8% according to a Gallup poll, and at 57% according to a poll conducted by Fréttablaðið. At the same time, Þóra is currently polling at 33.6% according to Gallup, and 30.8% in the Fréttablaðið poll.
These results show Ólafur not only pulling ahead, but Þóra falling behind. In the previous poll, conducted by Capacent, Ólafur was at 44.8% while Þóra was at 37%.
There were also differences of support between the two polls where other candidates were concerned. Ari Trausti Guðmundsson received 9.3% and 7.5%, Herdís Þorgeirsdóttir received 3.4% and 2.6%, Andrea J. Ólafsdóttir received 2.5% and 1.7%, and Hannes Bjarnason received 0.8% and 0.3%, according to Gallup and Fréttablaðið, respectively.
The greatest discrepancy, however, was among undecideds. Only 10% of those contacted for the Gallup poll did not take part or were undecided, while the same was the case for 25% of those contacted by Fréttablaðið.
