The Supreme Court has ruled that Jón Ásgeir Jóhannesson must pay the resolution committee of Glitnir more for their legal fees in a case they launched against him.
The resolution committee had filed a motion to have Jón Ásgeir’s assets frozen in 2010, after deciding that he and others had engaged in unsavory business practices with the funds in the bank. Among these practices was that he had pressured Glitnir into loaning his company money.
Last November, Reykjavík District Court ruled that he was to pay the Glitnir resolution committee for the full amount of their legal fees. The case was appealed to the Supreme Court, and RÚV now reports that they have confirmed the previous ruling.
Originally, Jón Ásgeir paid 150,000 GBP to the Glitnir resolution committee. By this new verdict, he must now pay 400,000 GBP, or 80 million ISK.
