A fan idea for Lego to start producing EVE Online spaceship kits has picked up the official interest of the company.
Lego regularly encourages ideas from fans for new building kits. On their website, these ideas are pitched, along with photos of prototypes, and other participants can vote their support. If the idea gains enough votes, then Lego will take the idea before an official jury for judging.
One idea that has gained a great deal of support has been to start making Lego kits of EVE Online ships. The fan in question, czar, points out that EVE Online players have even gotten in on the act, polling for which ships they would most like to see Lego produce.
The idea has been so successful that czar already has over 10,000 votes of support. An official statement from Lego congratulated him on the level of support, saying “we’re fans of awesome spaceships too, so we’re excited about this one.”
Now the idea moves to a more official level. “This project moves from the Idea stage to the Review stage. A ‘LEGO Jury’ composed of designers, product managers, and other key team members will examine the idea. We’ll build concept models and determine if the concept meets our high standards for what it takes to be a LEGO product, including playability, safety, and fit with the LEGO brand. Every LEGO product goes through a process like this and must meet the same standards.”
The next review will be held in June.
