Budget airline easyJet took its first flight to Iceland today, and the director of the airline predicts Iceland will become a popular travel destination for their customers.
Many Icelanders and foreigners alike have anticipated the arrival of easyJet, with plans in the works for months now. Morgunblaðið now reports that easyJet’s first flight to Iceland landed today at Keflavík airport at 8:40, arriving from Luton in the UK.
For now, easyJet will fly to and from Iceland three times a week: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
Paul Simmons, the director of easyJet in the UK told Breaking Travel News that the company was very excited about this new chapter in their lives.
“We are thrilled our first flight to Iceland has taken off from London Luton Airport today,” he said. “And are pleased with the fantastic response we have received from passengers. This is set to be one of our most successful destinations to date, and as a result we have committed to a year-round service. easyJet’s pledge is to make travel easy and affordable and this new route will help boost business and leisure travel to and from Iceland.”
