After receiving reports from locals, police in the capital are warning people to watch for falling icicles.
As with any country prone to winters with rapidly rising and falling temperatures, long and thick icicles are a fact of life in Iceland. Combine this with the shaking caused by the ubiquitous car traffic, or earthquakes, and the end result is obvious.
DV reports that while things have been relatively quiet for Reykjavík police today, a resident of the Þingholt neighbourhood called police to express worry about the icicles hanging from the edge of the roof of his house.
Police have therefore issued a warning to the general public to beware of falling icicles as temperatures begin to warm this weekend.
This is not the first time members of the general public have called the police about icicles. Previously, a store owner alerted police to the hanging icicles and precariously hanging snow on the roof of his shop, saying that he was worried snow or ice could fall on someone.
Police advise home and business owners alike to prevent accidents before they happen, by carefully knocking icicles from the edges of their roofs.
