Advisories from numerous sources have cautioned people to watch out for flying trampolines, and trampoline owners are asked to bring them inside.
Many families in Iceland own personal trampolines. These are typically set up in the yard, and both children and adults enjoy using them on a summer’s day. Trampolines are seldom taken down and brought inside at the end of the day, but rather, are left standing in the yard around the clock.
However, the weather in Iceland can change very suddenly. Case in point: after a long stretch of warm, sunny days, the capital area now seems to be in the midst of a cooler, windier spell. Combine these weather conditions with trampolines, and disaster can strike.
RÚV, with the aid of a helpful graphic, is already reporting that flying trampolines have been spotted. Vísir has reported the same, and have photographic evidence of the damage flying trampolines can do.
The capital police were also prompted to remind people on Facebook to secure their trampolines or bring them inside when windy weather is forecast.
As today appears to be just as windy as yesterday was, we also urge you to secure your trampolines. If you do go outside, be wary that flying trampolines can strike anywhere, anytime.
