Everyday life in the flooded area in south Iceland appears to be quickly returning to normal by all accounts.
There was a very small earthquake in Mýrdalsjökull yesterday, measuring only 2.6 on the Richter scale. Apart from that, there has been little activity – the flooding has long since ceased, and even yesterday’s new glacial flood seems to have reached its high water mark, and has done no damage.
Now efforts are being focused on rebuilding the bridge over the Múlakvísl river, while ferrying cars and trucks across it. This appears to be running smoothly, according to police in the area, with little delay of traffic.
Completion of the bridge, and total repair of the roads in the area, are expected to be done within three weeks’ time.
