The third annual Reykjavík Intercultural Day will be held this Saturday.
As the immigrant population of Iceland in general and Reykjavík in particular grows, dialogue in Iceland about multiculturalism has been gaining greater prominence. In keeping with the egalitarian spirit that many Icelanders adopt about other ethnic groups, this festival seeks to showcase the different cultures living in the capital.
Festivities begin at 13:00 at Hallgrímskirkja, where a parade will lead down to city hall. There, at 13:30, entertainment in the form of song, dance, and other events will begin. Nearby at Iðno, there will be an open market and live music. This is a family event, and everyone is welcome, regardless of age.
Organisers ask that those who are interested in setting up a table at the market or participating in any of the events at city hall contact Jóna Vigdís Kristinsdóttir at 411 4153 or jona.vigdis.kristinsdottir@reykjavik.is. You can also follow this event on Facebook.
