The Icelandic Music Awards have announced their nominations for the 17th annual award ceremony, which will be held at The National Theatre of Iceland on March 8.
The awards will go to the outstanding musicians of 2010. The purpose of these awards “is to encourage and reward Icelandic musicians and to further the local and international reputation of Icelandic music,” according to the music awards website.
The Icelandic Music Awards were first held in 1993. That year there were fourteen award categories and the group, Todmobile, received the most awards. Since then, the number of categories and interest in the award ceremony has grown.
