While support for the ruling coalition of the Social Democrats and Leftist-Greens raised slightly, nearly two-thirds of the country remain unsatisfied with the government. Satisfaction with individual ministers, and even members of the opposition, has also been on the wane.
According to the latest Gallup poll, 36% said they support the job the ruling coalition is doing. This is up by 6% since the last poll was taken, in October. Support for individual parties remained relatively unchanged, with the two exceptions between the Social Democrats (up from 18% to 22%) and the Independence Party (down from 36% to 34%). Support for the Leftist-Greens holds steady at 18%, while 13% said they’d vote for the Progressives if elections were held today, and 8% said the same for The Movement.
At the same time, however, support for the work of individual ministers has been decreasing. Only 21% said they were happy with the job the prime minister is doing. All ministers have seen a decrease in support since March, and no one ranked higher than 32%. The most popular figure among them is Minister of Education and Cultural Affairs Katrín Jakobsdóttir, with 32% saying they were happy with her work thus far, and the least popular one was Minister of Business Árni Páll Árnason, who ranked at a dismal 12%.
Which is not to say people are much happier with the alternative. Only 16% said they were happy with the job the opposition parties were doing, down from 22% in October.
