Former Kaupthing chairman of the board Sigurður Einarsson has proposed conditions for returning to Iceland for questioning by special prosecutor Ólafur Þór Hauksson.
The special prosecutor has asked Sigurður to come in for questioning, but he has so far failed to return to Iceland from the UK. Yesterday, he proposed conditions for his return.
First of all, if he were to return to Iceland, he does not want to be arrested, and he would prefer to be questioned in the UK. Sigurður’s lawyer, Gestur Jónsson, would not comment on the matter when contacted by Vísir.
Sigurður has been sought in light of the arrest of two former Kaupthing managers, who are accused of market manipulation and falsifying accounts during a time when Sigurður was director. It is believed that their offenses are too extensive to have gone unnoticed by higher-ups.
