The Icelandic police force intends to hold a protest today to draw attention to their low wages and benefits. Vísir reports that the protest will be assembled today at Borgartún 21, most likely at 14:00.
Snorri Magnússon, the chairman of the National Association of Policemen, told reporters, “It’s not something that the Association is supporting but I have heard that some men intend to assemble outside of the State Negotiations committee.”
Representatives of the police force and the government intend to meet at this location to work out a new collective bargaining agreement for the police. Magnússon added that the idea to assemble more or less arose by word of mouth between different policemen and received a good response.
The general public is of course welcome to also gather at Borgartún 21 at 14:00, whether it’s to show your support for the police, to witness the sight of police themselves protesting, or both.
