Notorious motorcycle club, Hells Angels, has reportedly opened a support club in Iceland, following the disbanding of the Icelandic motorcycle club Fáfnir. Though the chairman of MC Prospect of Hells Angels Iceland, Einar “Boom” Marteinsson, told Stöd 2 that the club’s sole function is riding motorcycles the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police wants the club banned on account of their international reputation as an organized crime syndicate.
Four men who were previously connected with Fáfnir and who are now connected with Hells Angels have been arrested recently on suspicion of defrauding ISK 50 million from the Housing Financing Fund last summer. This is considered to have been a final test that prospective members must take before being granted entry into Hells Angels.
Haraldur Johannessen, the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police, believes there is reason to deem all operations of Hells Angels illegal within Iceland considering the havoc that arms of the organization have reaped in other Nordic countries. According to Johannessen, the Icelandic Hells Angels will be eligible for full membership toward the end of 2010.
