A new website has opened that allows you to custom design your own traditional Icelandic sweater for purchase.
The website, peysanmin.com, allows you to choose from a variety of patterns and yarn colors, and then purchase the sweater through the website. Acording to the site, purchasers should receive their sweater within two to three weeks from the purchase date.
The company was actually created by a group of students from the University of Iceland. Elvar Þór Hjörleifsson, one of the students involved, told Morgunblaðið that the idea came to he and his associates when they were given the assignment to create an independent company.
“In light of the economic situation, we wanted to focus on Icelandic manufacturing and the creation of completely Icelandic products,” he added.
For now, the site is only in Icelandic and delivers only to Icelandic addresses. However, considering the prices for a full, custom-made sweater begin at 13,000 ISK, this business could take off to expand its distribution.
