The prospect of easing immigration restrictions for Icelanders seeking
work in Canada is being discussed between their respective governments.
Ásta R. Jóhannesdóttir, Iceland’s Minister of Social Affairs, will meet with Nancy Allan, the Minister of Employment and Immigration for Manitoba, Canada, tomorrow to discuss employment opportunities for Icelanders in Canada. Allan says that there is a shortage of professionally educated workers in Manitoba, which opens the possibility for Icelanders to find temporary employment in the province.
Jóhannesdóttir told Morgunblaðið that she hopes to reach an agreement with Allan, who will also be coming to familiarize herself with Iceland’s employment and immigration situation.
