Protestors gathered at the main square of Lækjartorg downtown Saturday night and lit a bonfire while playing music and singing, leading to confrontations with police and arrests. According to Morgunblaðið some 100 people were at the scene by midnight, and it was over by three in the morning.

Shortly after the bonfire was lit, firemen naturally arrived to put out the blaze, although bystanders continued to re-light fires as firemen were trying to extinguish it. This led to the arrival of police. Two arrests were made according to the police – one, who was allegedly the driver of the vehicle which brought burning materials to the fire, and another who is alleged to have interfered with the arrest.

However, one person on the scene contradicts the police statement, contending that the second person wasn’t near the police nor attempting to interfere with an arrest when he was himself arrested. The arrest was captured on video, which you can see here:
