A promotion for the opening of the movie Beverly Hills Chihuahua –
wherein dogs were encouraged to bring their owners – fell apart when it
came to light that dogs aren’t allowed in movie theatres.
The promotion, sponsored by the radio station Bylgjan and the theatre chain Sambíó, was to take place at the Álfabakka theatres today. However, the Public Health Authority of Reykjavík would not permit dogs in the theatre. Morgunblaðið reports that some owners left with their dogs, while some had other people come get their dogs, and then saw the movie dog free.
According to theatre shift manager Sindri Ásbjörnsson, someone forgot to apply for a special permit to allow dogs in the theatres, but there were special measures on standy-by – for example, the entire theatre would need to be sanitized after the movie in case viewers with allergies came in afterwards. Ásbjörnsson hopes that the paperwork for allowing dogs in the theatre will be completed in the future.
The blog world is alight with rage at this news. As one person put it: “Anaphylaxis My Ass.“
