A new poll conducted by a music exporter shows some interesting results about what people around the world look for in Iceland.
RÚV reports that, according to the findings of music exporter Kjartan Guðbergsson, “Of Monsters And Men” was Googled about 823,000 times per month over the past year – as many times as people Googled just “Iceland”.
“It would be possible to come to the conclusion that when it comes to looking for information on the internet, Of Monsters And Men has become as strong a brand as Iceland,” he told reporters. “Of course we know it’s maybe not exactly like that, but this is an indication.”
Additionally, 500,000 people around the world searched for “Bjork” and “Sigur Ros”, while 70,000 people searched for “Icelandic Symphony Orchestra”. This is, in fact, greater than the number of people who searched for “Icelandic soccer” and “Icelandic handball” combined.
Over the past 12 months, more people searched for “Dorrit Mousaieff”, “Kaffibarinn” and “Svavar Knutur” than “Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson” on Google. Whether this speaks to the Prime Minister’s lack of popularity or the lack of Icelandic letters on foreign keyboards is still unknown.
