From Iceland — Ireland/Iceland, What's The Difference?

Ireland/Iceland, What’s The Difference?

Published November 14, 2013

Our Irish kinsmen do not fail us in an hour of need! Changing only one letter in their country’s name, they’ve decided to support Iceland in the play-offs for the World Cup.

As reported, the men’s national football team is competing with Croatia on Friday in the first of two play-off matches to win a seat in the World Cup 2014.

Ireland unfortunately didn’t qualify for the World Cup and didn’t get a spot in the play-offs but rather than dismiss the play-offs entirely, Irish football fans are encouraged to get behind Iceland and so far over 11 thousand supporters have signed up!

“Ireland didn’t qualify for Brazil 2014, which is pretty shit (excuse my French).
Actually fuck the French, they’re the reason we weren’t at the last one.
Anyway Iceland might qualify, so let’s get behind them – sure they’re only one letter away,” says the support page.

Apparently, they see Iceland as just another Irish county, as can be seen by their hash tag on Twitter where more supporters are welcomed.

“C’mon lads spread the word, we’re almost at one million #CountyIceland supporters – only another 988,596 to go.”

Thank you guys/Go raibh maith agaibh!
