Reykjavík mayor Jón Gnarr intends to announce this Wednesday whether or not he will run again for mayor.
Vísir reports that the announcement will take place during the revival of popular radio show Tvíhöfði – of which Jón Gnarr was a founding member – on radio station Rás 2 Wednesday morning.
Despite strong polling for the Best Party lately, there has been uncertainty in the air over whether Jón Gnarr will run for another term as mayor.
While journalist Kolbrún Bergþórsdóttir pointed out that he has no reason to step away from politics, as the Best Party is under his command and remains very popular with capital residents, musician and stand-up comedian Dóri DNA pointed out that Jón Gnarr has had a lot of irons in the fire lately.
If he does decide to leave politics, many speculate that his successor will be Heiða Kristín Helgadóttir, his former assistant and now in the leadership of Bright Future, the sister party of the Best Party.
For now, whether or not Jón Gnarr will run again for mayor will remain a matter of speculation – that is, until Wednesday morning.
