Eight men were arrested on Friday night when police raided the champagne club Strawberries on Lækjargata, as part of an investigation on prostitution.
The owner and four employees were arrested on suspicion of providing prostitution. They have been charged and will be kept in custody until November 8, RÚV reports.
The remaining three men were guests at the club and were arrested on suspicion of paying for sex, which is illegal in Iceland.
Strawberries has been closed indefinitely while the case is being investigated. According to the police, a few other places with some association to the club’s owner were also searched.
The investigation looks into whether Strawberries provided prostitution in the past few months, or even years.
Seven women were in the club when it was raided and one of them was arrested on suspicion of dealing drugs. The others were questioned at the scene.
