Children from Greenland come to Iceland for swimming lessons and to make friends with Icelandic children.
30 children, aged 11, visited the Parliament on Wednesday, as part of their two week visit organized by Kalak, a Greenland/Iceland partner association.
One of the things the children do while in Iceland is make the most use of the geothermal public pools in Iceland.
“We’ve invited children from Greenland over here for eight years now,” Hrafn Jökulsson, spokesman for Kalak, said to Morgunblaðið. “They come from the small villages on the east coast of Greenland, to learn how to swim and get to know their Icelandic peers and Icelandic society.”
Kalak organizes the trip in collaboration with the town of Kópavogur, where the children get accommodation, attend school and go for a swim twice a day.
