Prime Minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson provoked peals of laughter when he told a roomful of investors that he wanted to see their money.
Vísir reports that the PM was an attendee of the Iceland Investment Forum at the Waldorf Hotel in London this morning. There, he addressed a crowd of about 150 investors, telling them that the Icelandic government was focussed on changing the investment environment for the better.
He also told the crowd that, despite Iceland currently pausing European Union accession talks, his government wants to build better relations with Europe and the United States alike. This included more two-way free trade agreements, he said, as Iceland currently has with China.
The PM then closed with a joke, telling the crowd, “Hopefully I’ll see you – and your money – in Iceland.”
