Supplies of German breweries’ biggest threat, Icelandic beer Bríó, were detained by customs for too long to be able to enter beer competition European Beer Star.
The annual competition is being held in Munich, Germany, and beers had to arrive for expert tasting before August 23rd. Brewery Ölgerðin Egill Skallagrímsson meant to compete in the category “German style Pilsner” with its renowned beer, Bríó, but customs in Leipzig kept the supplies for over a week for bureaucratic reasons so the beer didn’t arrive in time, mbl.is reports.
Although such cases are not entirely unheard of, it’s an interesting coincidence as Germans were shocked when Bríó won the “German style Pilsner” category at last year’s World Beer Cup.
There was even talk of decline in German beer making, such was their shame for having lost to an Icelandic brewery.
How convenient, therefore, that of all the beers entering the competition, Bríó got detained for too long… we’re just sayin’.
