The Constitutional Committee unanimously passed a bill amending provisions to the constitution this morning. It will proceed to a second reading this afternoon, RÚV reports.
Following this afternoon’s second reading of the bill it will be shelved until parliament convenes for its winter session on October 1st. The winter session of parliament was meant to begin on 10 September, but was postponed, sparking protest from Birgitta Jónsdóttir of the Pirate Party.
The constitutional bill was already approved by the previous government, but will have to be approved by the new Progressive and Independence Party coalition government in order to be put into motion.
