Seventeen fin whales have been caught already this season, RÚV reports. Whaling boat Hvalur 9 is heading back to the whaling station in Hvalfjörður with the latest catch; the whaling season started on 17 June and the first whale was caught the following day.

The operator, Hvalur ehf. has a quota of 154 animals this season but can add to that 20% of last year’s quota.
