The organisers of the Keflavík Music Festival have issued an apology to the press following an event rife with mishaps and cancellations.
Ólafur Geir Jónsson and Pálmi Þór Erlingsson wrote in their statement that the scope of the festival proved to be too much for the pair and problems soon began to pop up, RÚV reports.
Almost as soon as the 5-day festival began on 5 June it was plagued with problems. Bands showed up to settle contracts and be paid before taking the stage only to be left waiting in a performance tent with no security, no lights, and no heated facilities or performers. As The Grapevine previously reported, these types of snafus, coupled with the fact that the organisers seemed to be in hiding, resulted in a number of bands not taking the stage.
Despite the inaugural festival being a flop, Ólafur and Palmi plan to make the Keflavík Music Festival an annual happening. Hopefully they’ll have the kinks worked out before 2014.
