From Iceland — No Summer In Sight For The Southwest

No Summer In Sight For The Southwest

Published June 4, 2013

The Icelandic summer doesn‘t seem to be kicking off yet with rain and gale forces sweeping the South and West of Iceland today. The Icelandic Met Office warns drivers of gusts between 8-15 m/s through to the evening, especially in the northern part of Snæfellsnes.

Meanwhile, temperatures are rising in the North and East, with a nice sunny day to be expected in Akureyri and Egilsstaðir. Already at 10am, the temperature in Raufarhöfn was 19.9°C, whereas in Reykjavík it was only getting to 11°C, according to mbl.is

Last May was the coldest in Iceland since 2005. The average temperature in Reykjavík was merely 5.8°C, which is 1.2 degrees lower than the average temperature in May for the past decade, bar 2005 when the average temperature in May was the same as now.

The May rainfall in Reykjavík was however average, or 44.9mm.
