Leifur Örn Svavarsson reached the peak of Mt. Everest this morning, making him the first Icelander to do so from the north ridge route, mbl reports.
Leifur’s compatriot, Ingólfur Geir Gissurarson, reached the top from the southeast ridge on Tuesday. However, the north ridge route, which begins in Tibet, is more seldom travelled and considered the more difficult of the two main routes.
Despite facing a lot of wind on the peak this morning, all is said to have gone according to plan for Leifur.
