The city plans to begin renovating Hverfisgata, Frakkastígur and Klapparstígur this summer to make these roads more pedestrian and cyclist friendly, mbl reports.
The changes will include raising intersections, installing an underground snowmelt system, repaving streets and sidewalks, planting trees, and putting in bike lanes that run between the bus lane and sidewalk on both sides of Hverfisgata.
Most of the changes will occur on Hverfisgata between Lækjargata and Snorrabraut, but sections of Frakkastígur and Klapparstígur will also come under re-construction, including building a bike lane on the west side of Frakkastígur.
According to the city announcement, the affected streets will be open to pedestrians and cyclists throughout the entire construction period.
The city of Reykjavík will hold a public meeting in Tjarnarbíó Wednesday May 15 at 17:15 in order to further reveal and discuss the proposed changes.
