A rescue team from the Ægir in Grenivík found three sheep wandering about in the northern region of Þorgeirsfjörður, Vísir reports.
The team quickly identified the sheep by their ear-tags as being from the town of Grýtubakka and they returned them to their home by snowmobile. They are thought to have been outside all winter, having gone missing during last autumn’s extreme snowstorms. Their owner, Þórarinn Ingi Pétursson, says they’re in pretty good shape, all things considered.
Sheep in Iceland wander the countryside generally between May through October, when they are rounded up and returned to their respective farms. A few sheep usually go astray each year.
