Icelanders were upgrading their electronics this winter. The sale of computers in February was 29% higher than in the same month last year, with the sale of mobile phones following suit, increasing by 25% year over year, RÚV reports.
By comparison, the sale of groceries decreased by 1.2% in February 2013 compared to the same month in 2012, possibly because the average cost of groceries increased by 5.8% for the same period.
Overall the average spending of households was 10.2% higher this February than it was last year.
Foreigners shopping with their credit cards spent 4.9 billion ISK in February, a 50% increase from the year before, according to figures from the Central Bank.
