An Independence Party candidate bidding for the 14th place in the North Reykjavík constituency is wanted by the Polish police, RÚV reports.
The candidate, Christopher G. Krysynuson (né Krzysztof Gajowski), is accused of embezzlement. The Gryfino police in western Poland have a warrant out for his arrest. Polish police have requested Christopher’s extradition, which the Icelandic authorities have denied.
In a conversation with RÚV, Christopher said the warrant concerns a business he managed 30 years ago in Poland. The company went bankrupt, leading to legal proceedings.
Before the prosecution was concluded, Christopher moved to Iceland before being issued punishment, halting the prosecution. Additionally, he cited the Icelandic authorities’ decision to deny his extradition and claims to be an innocent man before Icelandic law.
A spokesperson told RÚV that the Independence Party was not aware of Christopher’s misgivings in Poland. Since the publication by RÚV, the party claimed that the candidate withdrew his bid voluntarily.
