Only one of the two hikers who were in the area of an avalanche at Móskarðshnúkar was buried in the snow.
Vísir reports that this man has now been found, and has been flown by helicopter to Landspítali hospital. His condition is unknown at the time of this writing.
As reported, rescue workers were called to Móskarðshnúkar, a mountain just east of Mt. Esja, north of Reykjavík, at around 13:00 today. Others on the scene witnessed the avalanche as it happened, and immediately alerted authorities.
All capital area rescue workers were deployed to the scene, which included a search helicopter.
Mt. Esja, which is west of the area and overlooks Reykjavík, is also a very popular hiking spot, but can also pose its own dangers when hiking in the winter.
