Syrian restaurant chain Mandi plans to open a pizza place in Hafnarstræti, where Nonnabiti was located for the previous 27 years. Two months have passed since the legendary downtown location Nonnabiti closed, which at the time came as a shock to Reykjavík’s nighthawks, the Grapevine reported.
Pizza inquiries
Hlal Jarah, owner of the popular Mandi restaurants in Veltusund and Skeifan, wants to open the third branch called Mandi Pizza in December, he reported to Vísir. He had received numerous inquiries, asking him to put pizza on the menu of his existing restaurants. Instead of mixing the pizza production with current operations, he decided to open an additional location with a different focus from the other two Mandi restaurants which serve Syrian specialties.
Late-night snacks
However, it will not be a pizza place in the traditional sense. In the interview, Hlal clarifies that the servings will be under Syrian influence and kebab pizza will probably be available. For everyone enjoying Reykjavík’s nightlife, Mandi pizza will add a new option for downtown late-night snacks as it will be open past midnight, just like its kebab affiliate. The big gap left by Nonnabitis sudden disappearance in mid-September will thus be filled at last.
