A new series is being filmed in Iceland, to be streamed on the Apple TV service, RÚV reports. The show will bring to the screen the “Foundation” series, a collection of seven science fiction books by Isaac Asimov.
In the past years, Iceland has become a favourite for location scouts. The ethereal landscapes have become the background for numerous shows and movies, amongst them Game of Thrones, Black Mirror, or even one of the James Bond movies.
The filming is set very close to Reykjavík, with a crew of about 250 people, and the shoot is supposed to stay in the area for an extensive period. Some known faces are part of the new Apple TV series, including Chernobyl’s Jared Harris and The Wire’s Clarke Peters. The story is set in a distant future and describes the collapse of a galactic empire.
Elsewhere in Iceland, another film crew is taking their fancy and very heavy gear into one of the most uninviting places for working: Vatnajökull’s Skálafellsjökull glacier, in Southeast Iceland. The crew of about 300 people is working on the new film ‘The Tomorrow War’ starring Chris Pratt. The story also involves alien life: earth has lost a war to invaders and the military is called in to turn the situation around.
