In a musical exchange, Icelandic icon Björk Guðmundsdóttir and Swedish artists Fever Ray and The Knife remixed each other’s songs. The outcome is experimental… and just a little bit disturbing on Björk’s side.
Fever Ray and The Knife tackle Björk’s “Features Creatures”
Both Fever Ray (Karin Dreijer) and The Knife (Karin and Olof Dreijer) decided to put a new spin on Björk’s “Features Creatures” from her 2017 LP “Utopia”. They kept the original lyrics- the poetics of the song therefore remain but it’s transformed by upgraded beats.
Karin sings on both remixes. Her Fever Ray version of the song is sinister and almost a little sensible. The Knife’s remix was created together with her brother and has a bit more of an edgy element to it. Some Björk fans might be delighted about the upgrades to the song, as the remixes seemingly add a new dimension to it.
Björk reworks Fever Ray’s “This Country”
It’s much harder to find the right words for Björk’s remix of Fever Ray’s “This Country” from her 2017 record “Plunge”. While the original version certainly isn’t everyone’s taste either, Björk has created something, which is truly not easy to identify with. She chose to leave out most of the actual lyrics and instead focused on one simple line: “This Country Makes It Hard To Fuck”
Apparently, it wasn’t enough to cut out all the other lines, except for the above one; she also renamed the song accordingly and equipped it with distorted industrial beats. Maybe she needed a break from all the romantic indulgence of her latest LP “Utopia”. Let’s leave it to the individual listener to decide which song speaks more to them.
