If you missed last weekend’s seemingly endless gusts and gales, you’re in luck, as tomorrow promises to bring more of the same.
The latest alert from the Icelandic Met Office shows that pretty much the entirety of West Iceland—with the exception of the Westfjords—will be experiencing powerful winds from early Tuesday morning until early Wednesday morning.
The western coast of South Iceland will get the worst of it, with winds reaching 18-25m/s and gusts as fast as 35-40m/s. This will especially be the case near mountains, so if you’re driving through that area tomorrow, be sure you have a vehicle capable of enduring such winds.
Meanwhile, Faxaflói (the bay around Reykjavík) and Breiðafjörður will fare slightly better, with winds from 15-23m/s and gusts at 35m/s. Which is still pretty dangerous for driving in with a tiny hatchback.
This storm is expected to pass some time Wednesday morning, so if you planned on driving through the region tomorrow and can put it off a day, it may be wise to do so. If you must travel, though, do check weather and road conditions first.
