With occasional sighting of sunshine in North Iceland on Tuesday, this week is looking to be a grey one. At the start of the week, snow will turn to rain in the Reykjavik area, persisting till Tuesday. The temperature in the capital region will drop to -6° on Friday morning.

Tuesday is expected to bring strong winds, up to 25m/s in the West Fjords and up to 19m/s in Southeast Iceland.

If you’re looking to spot the sun on the Valentine’s Day, the coastal towns of Húsavík and Raufarhöfn are your best options, with mild winds and clear skies throughout the day. Mother Nature will bless the entire island with snow on Saturday, possibly due to a bad (or a liberating) break-up. But hey, spending the Valentine’s Weekend indoors with your loved one or a jar of your favourite ice cream does not seem too shabby.

As always, check the weather and road conditions before planning your trips. These useful steps will help prevent unnecessary worries and potential accidents.
