The weather on Christmas Day—this Monday—is expected to be crappy, but the weekend preceding it should be pleasant, at least.

Vísir spoke with meteorologist Birta Líf Kristinsdóttir to ask the question on everyone’s minds: what kind of weather will we have on Christmas?

Unfortunately, we have some bad news: not only will there not be snow this Christmas, it should also be decidedly windy and rainy. How much rain, and how strong the winds will be, is still too soon to tell, but the outlook is not good for Christmas Day frolicking.

On the bright side, the weather this weekend should be calm, with clear skies and low temperatures. So if you want to take in the Christmas spirit, or do some last minute shopping, this weekend the elements will be on your side.

As reported, those of us in Reykjavík can expect a red Christmas this year. The north and northeast, which still have snow on the ground, may still have that snow by Monday, but only time will tell.
