One visitor’s attempt to clean after himself post-bowel-movement went out of control, prompting the response of both the fire department and police.

The West Iceland Police report that a cyclist of foreign extraction, presumably a tourist, pulled over just south of Bifröst in west Iceland this morning for the purpose of relieving himself. Upon completion, the traveler opted to dispose of the resultant toilet paper by setting it on fire.

This proved to be unwise, as the dry moss covering the surrounding lava ignited. He attempted to douse the flames with his water bottle, all in vain, as the fire quickly spread.

The fire department and the police soon arrived on the scene and put it out, and extinguished the flames with no reported deaths or injuries.

The West Iceland police made a point to remind travelers to be careful with fire, as the vegetation in the Borgarfjörður area is especially dry these days.
