Reykjavík Film Festival will be going ahead this year despite a lack of funding from the City of Reykjavík, reports RÚV.
“We will continue this important work,” said RIFF Festival Director, Hrönn Marinósdóttir.
Hrönn also confirmed that the festival will begin on September 25th and run until the 5th of October.
This will be the first RIFF festival held since the City of Reykjavík decided to withdraw its sponsorship. Hrönn said that instead roughly 50-60 companies and foundations have cooperated to make the festival happen.
It remains unclear exactly where the festival will be held but preparations are nonetheless in full swing and filmmakers are welcome to submit their work at the end of this month when applications open on the RIFF website.
The theme of this year’s festival will be Italy.
