Icelandic electronica trio Samaris have unveiled a new song today via their Bandcamp.
The band have have been an Icelandic success story in recent years. After first forming in the hall of their high school, they won the national Músiktilraunir battle-of-the-bands contest, shooting to prominence in their homeland for their atmospheric combinations of beats, clarinet and lyrical poetry. They signed with One Little Indian—also home to Björk, Fufanu, Ólöf Arnalds and Ásgeir Trausti—and have since toured far and wide, playing festivals all over Europe, and as far as Australia.
The new song perhaps reflects their travels—the bigger the crowds get, the more keenly bands feel the the urge to make them dance. “Wanted 2 Say” is also their first track in English, perhaps reflecting a wish to connect more easily with their new, growing international audience.
Says Jófriður: “Wanted 2 Say’s lyrics are kind of all over the place. My thoughts were about Iceland and the nature, how it’s our most precious thing—you know that cliché! But the theme of the song became more about us writing and expressing our thoughts in English.”
